Thank you, but...

Thank you for your application to participate as an exhibitor in Savannah's Fine Arts on the River, 2011. There was an extremely large pool of high quality artisans with very limited space available; you were not, unfortunately, accepted into the show at this time. Thank you for your interest in this show and we invite you to apply to all the shows in the River Street Festival Series!

This was the text of the short email I received Friday.

When I first started doing these shows, I hated getting these...kind of took it personally. Having done a few now, I still don't like to get them, but I realize it isn't necessarily that they hate my work (which they may), but there are lots of other factors involved in not getting in a show.

Usually, there really is limited space and too many applicants - especially for popular, juried shows. I've also discovered that if you don't get in, it may be because the work just doesn't fit with the type show. In other words, it would stick out like a sore thumb. I've been there and done that.

Sometimes, it's more political - who you know, or don't know, in my case.

Still, it can be frustrating when you pay the $10-$50 application fee and get rejected.

My philosophy...ever forward. I continue to work, and I apply for other shows as they come up. The same week this email came, I got a letter from the 34th Annual Historic Pendleton Spring Jubilee saying I had been accepted into their festival. Win some...lose some.

  1. It's their loss - your work is beautiful! So happy that you will be in the other show.
